QuickBooks is Moving Users Online: What It Means for You
QuickBooks is probably one of the better-known accountancy packages out there, offering its users a relatively straightforward set of tools to manage their accounting functions. But in a significant move, and a nod to browser-based software packages, Intuit, the holding company for QuickBooks has announced its plans to phase out the desktop application. Instead, they will be transitioning most users to QuickBooks Online, their browser-based solution. This change isn’t just a software update, but a big leap towards one version of QuickBooks that works for all.
Here are the details.
- QuickBooks Desktop v21 will be discontinued on May 31, 2024
- After July 31, 2024, the only version of Desktop available will be their Enterprise product.
In a recent communication from QuickBooks they said:
“Your access to QuickBooks Desktop Payroll, Desktop Payments, live technical support, Online Backup, Online Banking, and other services
through QuickBooks Desktop 2021 software will be discontinued after May 31, 2024. This also means you won’t receive critical security
updates protecting your data starting June 1, 2024.”
But what does this mean for you and your business?
Accessibility Anywhere, Anytime
Many of our clients are on QuickBooks legacy desktop apps, but in our opinion, one of the standout advantages of QuickBooks Online is its flexibility. The desktop version ties you to a single computer or server. However QuickBooks Online allows you to access your financial data from any device, anywhere in the world with an internet connection. It won’t matter if you at home, in the office, or traveling. You can manage your accounts anywhere, effortlessly.
Automatic Updates and Enhancements
With Quickbook Online automatic updates and enhancements, you can say goodbye to the hassle of manual updates and out-of-date software. QuickBooks Online will ensure you always have the latest features and security enhancements through automatic updates. This means your software is always up-to-date, allowing you to focus your attention on what truly matters – running your business.
Seamless Integrations
What we love about QuickBooks Online is how seamlessly it integrates with various other online tools and services. Perhaps you want to link your payroll and invoicing software to customer relationship management (CRM) systems, QuickBooks can do that. Or perhaps you want to link your e-commerce software with QuickBooks so your online orders come into your accountancy software. QuickBooks can do that too. These integrations can streamline your operations, saving you time and reducing the risk of errors.
